Liveaboards

by Scubacat

MV Scuba Cat is an ideal scuba diving platform. Her design gives stability that is only found in a very large catamaran liveaboard. She operates amongst the protected waters of the Similan Islands making this the most "friendly" liveaboard to be found...seasickness is rare. From only 12,000 Baht per person.

Scuba Cat Diving, Phuket, Thailand International Cleanup WEEKEND 21st-22nd September 2008

On the weekend of the 21st -22nd of September the International Clean up day was held. After helping with this initiative for years, this time Scuba Cat Diving organised  a Clean up weekend instead of one day!

Project_Aware_Scuba_Cat_Diving_Phuket_ThailandTogether with 19 enthusiastic volunteers this project started on Saturday morning.

First everyone was picked up and brought to Chalong Pier, where our Day Trip boat the MV Scuba Fun was ready to go. After a nice welcome from Kath we all were excited to start the clean up!  While everyone was enjoying breakfast on the boat, the trip to Koh Racha Yai started. About an hour and a half we arrived at the east side of beautiful Racha Yai island. Here we boarded the Scuba Cat liveaboard, where we would start our dives and stay overnight.

First we were given some information about the dive sites and after we were split up in several groups so our first dive could start.  Every group covered an area near the boat to collect rubbish from the ocean. A lot was found and after this successful start it was time for a nice buffet lunch as we all were hungry.

Project_Aware_Scuba_Cat_Diving_Phuket_ThailandLater that day we went for our second and third dive. Becoming aware of what to look for we collected rubbish, fishing lines, nets, clothes, bottles and much more. Our first day was very successful! After a nice dinner a night dive was planned for the ones who wanted to do this. The rest of the evening it was time to relax and get fit for the second day.

Waking up at 7 am our second day began. After a small breakfast we entered the water at 7.30 to continue our cleaning. This time we went further North as there was a lot more trash in this area. This place is used a lot by fisherman and we could see this in the water. If the fisherman can’t use it any more they just throw it overboard. A lot of fishing nets and fishing lines were founded here and after an hour diving our bags were almost full.

Coming back on the boat a full breakfast was waiting for us. We had a longer break this time so we had more time to go canoeing or enjoy the sun deck. After our rest it was time for our second dive and we went out again. The first day we entered the water from MV Scuba Cat and the second day the dingy took us to the dive sites. Even though we already picked up so much we still find a lot. And not only small things but also tyres and a big rope was brought up by our divers.

About 1pm our last dive of the weekend was planned to clean up the remaining things and then unfortunately it was time to go back. not only for us, but also for the liveaboard MV Scuba Cat. After being moored at Koh Racha Yai the boat went back to the harbour to prepare for high season when it goes to the Similan Islands.

Project_Aware_Scuba_Cat_Diving_Phuket_ThailandThe clean up weekend had been very successful! Diving is fun, but doing something positive for the environment makes it extra special. A total of 600 kg rubbish had been picked out of the water by Scuba Cat Diving and the reef at Racha Yai is cleaner now.

We would like to thank staff members and volunteers for their help and Suface Marker Bouys for the use of their liftbags and hope to see you next year!

Patong Carnival 1st - 3rd November 2008

Patong_Carnival_2008_ Scuba_Cat-Diving_Phuket_ThailandThe largest island in Thailand, the most populous and the most popular one; Phuket is a major watershed in the tourism industry of Thailand. And festivals and events in Phuket are more than you can even think of. In this cosmopolitan island there are festivals for every faith, every religion every race, and every kind of tourist for that matter. The Patong Carnival Phuket is the other name for pure unadulterated fun. This mad rush of fun and frolic goes of for 3 days-November 1st to November 3rd every year.

The Patong Carnival marks the onset of the ‘high season' the months of tourist boom. And what better place to celebrate that than at the island's most frequented beachfront and Scuba Cat Diving? From colorful street parades to beach volleyball or beach football competitions to a mini-marathon, various water-sport events and competitions as well as numerous other events and activities throng the sands at Patong on these days.

You can titillate your taste buds at the food stalls at beachfront, with mind blowing Thai cuisines. Do not be too worried about your waistline you have all night to shed off your calories. During the Patong carnival, Phuket never sleeps.

Compared with most "dive centers" in Thailand (a lot of them is just a website - a "Virtual Dive Company") - Scuba Cat owns their own fleet of diving boats and have been in operation since 1994. If you do a Course or a Dive Career Package with us, all your dives will be from one of our own dive boats, not "we got to do a beach dive, 'cause it is not enough students" or from a "last minute rented long tail boat, 'cause all the other boats are full".
