{"id":1282,"date":"2012-06-07T17:02:50","date_gmt":"2012-06-07T10:02:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/blog\/?p=1282"},"modified":"2012-06-07T17:02:51","modified_gmt":"2012-06-07T10:02:51","slug":"scuba-cat-diving-restored-my-confidence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/blog\/5-star-cdc\/scuba-cat-diving-restored-my-confidence","title":{"rendered":"Scuba Cat Diving restored my Confidence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I first discovered Scuba Cat Diving, Phuket, Thailand 7 months ago when I had nearly decided to stop diving after completing an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/scuba_courses\/continuing_education\/advanced_open_water_diver.php\" target=\"_blank\">Advanced Open Water course<\/a> that fell far short of  standards and left me feeling uncomfortable and lacking in confidence in the water&#8230;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Today, I am nearing completion of my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat-idc.com\/-divemaster.html\" target=\"_blank\"> Dive Master Course <\/a>at Scuba Cat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/blog\/5-star-cdc\/scuba-cat-diving-restored-my-confidence\/attachment\/-divemaster\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1283\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1283\" title=\"Scuba Cat Diving Phuket Thailand  Divemaster\" src=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/-Divemaster-172x300.jpg\" alt=\"Scuba Cat Diving  5 * CDC Phuket Thailand\" width=\"172\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While taking my  Advanced Open Water course on a Similans Liveaboard, I saw the same course being taught far more comprehensively by an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat-idc.com\/scubacat-idc-team.html\" target=\"_blank\">Instructor (Kiwi) \u00a0from Scuba Cat<\/a>.\u00a0 As a newly certified <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/scuba_courses\/learn_to_dive\/open_water_diver.php\" target=\"_blank\">Open Water diver<\/a> I didn\u2019t want to question my advanced training but through comparison and several experiences in the water that put my safety in jeopardy, it was clear that my training was incomplete and rushed.\u00a0 After speaking with Kiwi \u00a0relaying some of my concerns he told me to stop by the Scuba Cat Dive shop \u00a0in Patong when I finished the liveaboard.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/blog\/5-star-cdc\/scuba-cat-diving-restored-my-confidence\/attachment\/ge-digital-camera-3\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1285\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1285\" title=\"Scuba Cat Diving Phuket Thailand\" src=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Scuba-Cat-Diving--5-CDC-Centre-Phuket-Thailand-with-Coco-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Scuba Cat Diving  5 * CDC Phuket Thailand\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I arrived back in Patong I went to see Scuba Cat. General Manager, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/go_pro\/phuket--course-director.php\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah<\/a>, was already aware of what had happened and she offered to put me on one of their boats free-of-charge to receive the training that I should have received during my course.\u00a0 In short I had not met the performance requirements that would make me an Advanced Open Water diver, however I had been signed off anyway. At this point in time I had no connection with Scuba Cat and here they were prepared to reteach the course for me to ensure that I was a competent AOW diver.<\/p>\n<p>The next day I went to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/day_trips\/dive_sites.php\" target=\"_blank\">Racha Yai<\/a> to repeat the navigation, deep, and peak performance buoyancy portions of my course.\u00a0 From the moment I got on the boat I felt very well taken care of.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1295\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/blog\/5-star-cdc\/scuba-cat-diving-restored-my-confidence\/attachment\/racha-yai-island-2\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1295\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1295\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1295\" title=\"Scuba Cat Diving Phuket Thailand Racha Yai\" src=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Racha-Yai-Island-300x162.jpg\" alt=\"Scuba Cat Diving  5 * CDC Phuket Thailand\" width=\"300\" height=\"162\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1295\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Racha Yai Island<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat-idc.com\/scubacat-idc-team.html\" target=\"_blank\">Tony, my Instructor<\/a> went through all of my equipment set up and briefed me on what we were going to do.\u00a0 It was taught in a very accessible manner and I felt prepared and ready for my dives.\u00a0 Whilst in the water, we covered all of the performance requirements that an advanced diver should demonstrate.\u00a0 The training was very comprehensive and I felt my confidence returning in the water.\u00a0 There was no question in my mind that I was going to continue diving and that that Scuba Cat was the only choice.<\/p>\n<p>Several months on \u00a0a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/scuba_courses\/continuing_education\/rescue_diver.php\" target=\"_blank\">Rescue Diver course<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/scuba_courses\/continuing_education\/specialities\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">5 specialities<\/a> and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat-idc.com\/master-scuba-diver-internship.html\" target=\"_blank\"> Master Scuba Diver<\/a> later) I am now in the middle of my Dive Master training.<\/p>\n<p>How far I have come from those few months ago when I was ready to give up diving because of a poor learning experience!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/blog\/5-star-cdc\/scuba-cat-diving-restored-my-confidence\/attachment\/-specialities\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1286\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1286\" title=\"Scuba Cat Diving Phuket Thailand  Specialities\" src=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/-Specialities-176x300.jpg\" alt=\"Scuba Cat Diving  5 * CDC Phuket Thailand \" width=\"176\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Dive Master course is the first rung on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat-idc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> professional<\/a> ladder. \u00a0It is challenging and exhausting but so much fun.\u00a0 I am training with several other people and there is a great sense of camaraderie. We complete an extensive range of classroom training, pool training and open water training and our learning encompasses even more than what is required by  standards.\u00a0 We assist on multiple courses and have access to experienced instructors that are a wealth of information and incredibly supportive in our learning.\u00a0 I have assisted on a few courses now and it is really a great opportunity to see and participate in different teaching practices.\u00a0 All of the Scuba Cat Instructors are very vigilant about making sure that their students meet the performance requirements but their methods are varied and to have exposure to that is a good learning tool.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/blog\/5-star-cdc\/scuba-cat-diving-restored-my-confidence\/attachment\/50116_uk-ai\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1298\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1298\" title=\"Scuba Cat Diving  5 * CDC Phuket Thailand \" src=\"http:\/\/www.scubacat.com\/en\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/50116_UK-copy-234x300.jpg\" alt=\"Scuba Cat Diving Phuket Thailand \" width=\"234\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As a repeat customer and now a Dive Master trainee, I would say that the one thing that has kept me coming back to Scuba Cat is their commitment to quality and excellence.\u00a0 We repeat skills and tasks over and over again and our training is not just about doing something once and then being signed off.\u00a0 There are multiple opportunities to practice and hone our skills.\u00a0 Of course as Dive Master trainees we make lots of mistakes but even those are turned in to valuable learning opportunities.\u00a0 Our mistakes also are fodder for the instructors who love to tease us. I, for one, will never again forget to pack my wet suit for a cold and rainy day of pool training!<\/p>\n<p>As trainees, we a representing the company and therefore are expected to abide by the company code of conduct.\u00a0 We have responsibilities just as the staff members do and our assistance is required in order to keep things running efficiently and effectively.\u00a0 During the course you learn that your scope of responsibilities lies well beyond being in the water with customers.
